Discover Card - Code RN

Definition: What this service dispute means is that a card holder is alleging that he or she did not receive a credit that was expected the merchant in question, or that an expected credit was of an insufficient amount. There are two sub reason codes associated with this dispute code, RN1 and RN2.

Explanation: Additional Credit Requested (code RN1) or Non-Receipt of Credit (code RN2).

How to prevent this Chargeback: In order to prevent this chargeback from occurring, it is necessary for you to work directly with the card holder either to rectify the error in granting the credit owed, or in explaining why a credit is not due or is due for the amount that was already granted.

How to resolve this Chargeback: In order to resolve this type of chargeback, you must be able to provide supportive documentation which shows why the amount of the credit was correct, or why no credit is actually due to the card holder.

Tips: Although it does depend in part on which type of chargeback this actually is, RN1 or RN2, the best way to resolve a dispute is typically simply to issue the correct amount of credit, or to show the card member why the correct credit has already been issued if it is less than the card member expected. If you have any written policies which back up this claim, providing them will be invaluable.
